Reflection #1

Thoughts on Standard 2.2

Having a vision will help cultivate an action plan. I always envisioned taking my two passions, education and entertainment, and combining the two. With my media expertise and teaching experience, I bring the best of both worlds into my classroom by utilizing tech tools and an energetic personality that keeps students alert and interested. In addition, working in the television and radio fields helped me sharpen my public speaking abilities to articulate to others the scope of my education program and the needs we may have.

Reflection #2

Relevance to my practice

My experience working with a vulnerable population of out-of-school young adults aged 16-25 verified a need to be diverse and unorthodox in methods chosen to captivate learners. Thinking outside the box and being clear on what goals are attainable for all students in the classroom is necessary, especially with the multiple age groups. For example, I have taught many students interested in a media career. Thanks to my prior employment with two of the biggest urban radio stations in the U.S., I secured a field trip to HOT 97 & WBLS-FM so my students could see all aspects of the music business firsthand.

Project #1 Website Evaluation Infographic

An essential piece of educational technology leadership encompasses the desire to seek out new technologies and give concise instructions on how to utilize them. The world wide web has replaced encyclopedias in how we gather information, but there is a necessity to ensure factual information is collected. For this project, I created a website evaluator infographic. Attached is a PDF rubric for my students to double-check their findings.
